EXPERIENCE:

Jacquelyn Bouwman is an attorney licensed to practice in state and federal courts in South Dakota.  She focuses primarily in the area of business litigation, including:

  • Pursuing and defending breach of contract claims;

  • Obtaining judgments and collections; and

  • Pursuing creditors’ rights in foreclosures and priority disputes.

Jacquelyn has represented clients in trial, mediations, motions hearings, and depositions, as well as through written submissions to the court.  Prior to joining Woods Fuller, she completed a federal clerkship, where she assisted drafting judicial opinions on a series of complex civil litigation matters.

Originally from Lemmon, South Dakota, Jacquelyn pursued her higher education at the University of South Dakota, where she received a Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration joint degree, with highest honors. While in law school, she served as Class President, Trial Team President, Lead Articles Editor of the South Dakota Law Review, and Student Liaison for the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association.

In her first year of law school, Jacquelyn was awarded first place in the Sam Masten moot court competition, where the final round was argued before a panel of South Dakota Supreme Court justices and federal judges. She competed nationally on the mock trial team, including in Washington D.C. and New York City. In her final year of law school, she was awarded the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Association Award.

Her article, “Murdering the Market: How Stigmatized Property Disclosure Requirements in South Dakota Unreasonably Diminish Economic Value in the Residential Real Estate Market,” was published in Volume 63 of the South Dakota Law Review, and has been cited internationally.

In her free time, Jacquelyn enjoys traveling with her husband.
