Associates

At Woods Fuller, we view associate development as an investment in the future. Private practice is an exciting and varied world, but the first few years out of law school are some of the most challenging in any attorney’s career. The purpose of our associate development program is to help new attorneys develop the skills and habits they need to successfully practice law.

Every associate who starts at Woods Fuller is welcomed with the hope they will succeed and eventually join the firm’s ownership group as a shareholder. We do not subscribe to a disposable associate philosophy. That is why we hit the ground running and ensure our associates have access to the tools, mentorship, and other resources they need to succeed.

We have invested in providing our new associates with the tangible tools they need to succeed. Our Sioux Falls office, long recognizable as a cornerstone on Phillips Avenue in the heart of downtown Sioux Falls, is now better than ever before. A renovation project completed in 2021 has completely redefined the space, providing modern office amenities for staff and attorneys.  Not to be outdone, and after several years of planning and development, our Sioux Center office reopened its doors in 2020 as a resident of the brand new 815 Complex, a development project that is reshaping north Sioux Center and has elevated the standard for professional space in Sioux Center (including an adjacent brewery).

We also believe we have a responsibility to provide new associates with professional guidance and resources. At Woods Fuller, this is a very deliberate process. When you start, you are immediately immersed in practice groups relevant to your career interests and practice goals. Simultaneously, we match you with an experienced mentor. Your mentor and practice groups will provide you with the personal and professional support that is essential to developing as a young attorney.

Additionally, we have an Associate Training Program, curated on an ongoing basis by our professional development committee, which provides a formal framework and unique opportunities for professional development. This program features educational workshops, guest speakers (including judges, mediators, and other practitioners), and other opportunities. The goal of this support ecosystem is to help you develop exemplary technical skills and build familiarity with the interpersonal aspects of the practice (including business development, negotiation, and client relations), while ensuring you thrive personally in our fast-paced private practice environment.

We have a highly competitive compensation package, which includes phenomenal health insurance and retirement benefits. Additionally, you will have access to marketing and continuing education funding provided by the firm.

If you are interested in joining our team, we invite you to apply. Resumes can be directed to hr@woodsfuller.com.
