EXPERIENCE:

Prior to earning her law degree, Susan was a paralegal for several years, where she gained invaluable experience supporting a wide variety of practice areas. This background provided a uniquely comprehensive and robust foundation for her own practice of law. Today, she represents and advises businesses on formation, governance, contracts, transactions, and real estate matters, including construction law. She also has significant experience in municipal law, with a deep understanding of the unique complexities of local government operations, transactions, and code enforcement. In addition, Susan assists families with family law matters such as divorce, custody, adoptions, guardianships, and conservatorships.

While in law school, Susan served as an associate editor for Mitchell Hamline Law Review Vol. 49 and continued to build her practical experience through student internships. She graduated with honors in the top 20% of her class. Additionally, before entering the legal field, Susan obtained an MA in Classics and taught Latin from elementary through undergraduate levels, while also editing several works in the language. She credits her experience as a teacher for the personable and accessible communication style she brings to her law practice.

Susan chose to join the team at Woods Fuller for its long-standing traditions of integrity, excellence, and community service, and she strives to advocate for her clients in accordance with these values. As a Sioux Falls native, giving back to her local community is important to Susan, particularly through programs that support families and small businesses. She currently serves on the board of directors for several local nonprofit organizations. She also serves in leadership roles as a member of a local school board and as a director of the South Dakota Municipal Attorneys Association. Outside of her practice, Susan often enjoys time outdoors with her family of active young children.
