Revisions to South Dakota Parenting Guidelines

A revised version of the South Dakota Parenting Guidelines is officially effective July 1, 2022.

Many Woods Fuller family law clients are already aware of the former guidelines, which may even be incorporated into their existing custody and parenting time orders.  Existing orders will continue to apply the former guidelines.  However, clients may benefit to review the revised Guidelines and determine if modifications to their existing orders would be beneficial to their family.

A few noteworthy changes to the Guidelines include (1) more detailed and clear holiday parenting time schedules for different aged children; (2) extending alternating weekends to Monday morning rather than Sunday evening, in certain cases; (3) a preference for one overnight mid-week visit rather than two evenings, in certain cases; (4) and clarification regarding conflicts between regular and holiday parenting time.

To learn more, or if you are experiencing a new separation or divorce involving children, please reach out to schedule a time to talk with one of the Woods Fuller family law attorneys to see how the revised Guidelines could impact you.
