Woods Fuller Remembers a Remarkable Woman: Kris O’Connell
We are saddened by the passing of our longtime colleague and friend, Kris O’Connell. In her years with Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith P.C., Kris exemplified professionalism, integrity, and a deep devotion to the practice of law. Her contributions were immeasurable, and her legacy remains firmly woven into the fabric of who we are.
Kris joined Woods Fuller in 1993, building a distinguished legal career that spanned insurance defense litigation, health insurance contract and compliance, governmental relations and lobbying, and family law. Before entering the legal profession, she began her career in nursing; an early chapter that reflected the deep compassion and care she brought to every aspect of her life and work.
Her professional dedication extended beyond the walls of our firm. Kris was a committed member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, the South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute.
Those who worked with Kris knew her not only as an exceptional attorney, but as a remarkable person. Kris’s kindness, strength, and unwavering support for others will remain a part of the Woods Fuller story forever. We are grateful for the decades we shared with her and for the indelible mark she leaves behind.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Kris’s family, friends, and all who were touched by her life.
