Tom Schartz Joins Woods Fuller as Associate

The team of attorneys at Woods Fuller continues to grow with the addition of Thomas P. Schartz as an associate.

He grew up on a farm south of Humboldt, South Dakota and later attended South Dakota State University, where he received his undergraduate degree in agronomy with a minor in business.

Tom worked as an agronomist at a farmer-owned cooperative in northeast South Dakota for three years before attending law school at the University of South Dakota. While in law school, Tom was a member of the Moot Court Board, winning “Best Brief” at the USD intramural moot court competition. He and his team also won “Best Brief” at the Brooklyn Law School Moot Court Competition in 2020. Tom served as the Vice President of the Agricultural Law Association, 2L Representative for the Native American Law Students Association, and volunteered with the Veterans Legal Education Group. He graduated magna cum laude in 2021.

After graduation, Tom clerked for the Honorable Justice Mark Salter on the South Dakota Supreme Court. Tom’s practice is focused primarily on general litigation. When not at the office, he enjoys spending time on the farm, pheasant hunting, and riding the bike trails in Sioux Falls with his fiancé, Ashley.
