Woods Fuller Client Patents Laboratory Tool

Our firm assisted one of our clients, John Sternick, of Brandon, SD in obtaining U.S. Patent No. 11,059,037 on “SAMPLE MANIPULATION TOOLS.”  This patent protects aspects of a tool for use in a laboratory with features for spreading a biological sample across the surface of an agar, or gelatin, in a petri dish as well as features for collecting portions of the biological sample from the agar surface.  Specifically, the tool may include two or more loop segments that are specifically designed for moving portions of a biological sample across the agar surface, and each loop segment can be used for spreading a different sample without cross-contamination between samples while still using the same tool.  Further, the tool may include an extendable sample needle with a tip which may be brought into contact with the agar surface to pick up a portion of the sample so that the sampled portion can be transferred to another location for analysis.
